THE PORTRAITS AT THE CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IN SAN JOSE

This collection of portraits was started in the 1982 when the San Jose Symphony was still performing. Paul Tumason thought that a set of large images of musicians would be a great marketing tool  not only for his then blossoming portrait business but also for the San Jose Symphony. With only an idea, he photographed fifteen principal musicians and the maestro during that summer and had the set completed by opening night in that September of 1982. Quite an event for both the San Jose Symphony and Paul Tumason. Front page coverage with photos appeared in the Mercury News Entertainment section on that Friday of opening night. The “buzz” has continued about the portraits ever since . The collection included 30 x40 portraits of the Maestro, George Cleve, and the principal players of the orchestra.
